OUR CAT RV CLUB NEWSLETTER WINS NEWSLETTER AWARD

As in International Chapter in FMCA, the CAT RV Club submitted their 2008 print newsletters for judging in the annual International Area Newsletter Contest. We competed in the manufacturer/sponsored chapter division.  Spartan Chassis took first place, CAT RV CLUB second and Freightliner Chasis Owner's Club third. The Club received the honorable mention certificate at the INTO Area meeting in Bowling Green, Ohio.  Past Newsletter Editors, Dianne Wolfe and Joe Hipp, were very pleased with the award. So are we. This is the first time the Club had submitted newsletters for judging.  Our 2009 newsletters are already in the mail to the International Chapter for this year's competition.  To see the Award Winning 2008 Newsletters click on READ MORE.

TECH TIDBITS - EXTENDED LIFE COOLANT

Cat Extended Life Coolant (ELC) utilizes patented carboxylate inhibitors that allow the coolant
to go at least 600,000 miles, 6,000 hours or 6 years before a coolant change. No SCA’s are
needed. A single addition of Cat Extender is all that is required at 300,000 miles, 3,000
hours or three years. It eliminates the need to use supplemental coolant additives (SCA’s).  When the cooling system is maintained properly and ELC (or equivalent) is used for top up, there is no need to conduct routine testing for inhibitor levels.  What you need to know...  Return to Index

CAT RV CLUB MEMBERSHIP RECRUITING

The Club, just like FMCA, needs our help to make it grow. While we added 136 new members during the twelve months ending October 31, 2009, this number was down from 268 new members during the same period last year.  Not all of this decrease was due to the decline in the number of 1st Year Free memberships.   Most of these new members have been recruited by existing members and Club activities at FMCA conventions.  In spite of these additional members, our total membership has declined overall as a result of members leaving due to age, illness, or lifestyle changes.  Our total membership is down from 1,281 member families to 1,134 families as of this time last year.

Charlie Schrenkel, FMCA National President, recently empathized the importance of "...strong numbers and strong participation in any organization to ensure a healthy, progressive, and strong association."  We members of the CAT RV Club can help the Club and FMCA by encouraging every CAT powered coach owner we come across to join our Club, and FMCA if they are not already members.  Lets do our part to help them understand this wonderful lifestyle.

If there is anything the officers of your Club can do to help you recruit a new member, just let me know.  In the meantime, if you have not renewed your own membership, please do so now.

SAFETY AND COACH NIGHT LIGHTS
by Kathe Letulle, Treasurer and Alternate National Director

Last month, around midnight, while driving the coach, I was stopped by the state patrol. NO, I was not speeding but the upper lights on the back of the coach, that are supposed to be red, had faded out ... appearing white and I received a warning.  I learned it's a good idea to check the back of the coach and ensure the lights are all red, the sides are amber and the fronts are white.  The patrol officer was very nice and walked me around the entire coach advising on the colors of each light -- another education for me.

The upper lights on the rear of the coach had faded in the center to white but the edges were still red.  In the daylight at first glance they appear red but upon closer inspection the fading shows.  Never take anything for granted! You gentlemen out there may already know this, but it was an eduction for me, as our coach is only 5 years old but in the elements all the time. Return to Index

INTO RALLY IN QUARTZSITE
by Al Vormittag, National Director and INTO Vice President

I would like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to the INTO Rally to be held from January 20th to January 24th in Quartzsite Arizona at the Rose RV Park.

INTO has leased an exclusive area, so come with your chapter and/or friends and park together!  Have your own rally within our rally.  Eat our hot breakfasts, play games, and come to our entertainment with your group.  The annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation and RV Show will be in town (Jan. 16 tp 24), so you'll be able to find anything you can think of for yourselves and your motorhome at this "big tent" event.

In addition to four nights of dry camping (Jan. 20 - 24), your INTO rally fee includes:
  • Bingo
  • Crafts
  • Seminars
  • Pet Parage
  • Geocaching
  • Three hot breakfasts
  • Evening entertainment
The 2010 INTO rallly isn't fancy, just good old-fashioned fun among a "family" of motorhomers.  Now, that's getting back to basics.  Return to Index
