BEAT THE HEAT!!! 150 attending the Newport, Oregon CAT RV CLUB Rally did just that!!!
When 75 RV rigs converged on Pacific Shores Resort in Newport, Oregon, the weather was on the COOL side…be jealous those of you non-attendees sweltering in 100+ degree temps.
Attention to detail was the motivation for seminars. Attendees had a variety of challenges - knowledge of their CAT Engine, knowledge of general maintenance of their rig and best of all - KNOWLEDGE creating a useable craft out of unfamiliar materials. Thanks to Geocaching, Aqua-Hot and SilverLeaf for adding to the seminar mix. Both men and women attended every seminar. Click READ MORE below for the rest of the report.
YOUR BOARD IN ACTION - CHAPTER ANNUAL MEETING, REDMOND, OREGON
By Joe Hipp, Secretary
The CAT RV Club Annual Meeting was held on August 12, 2010 in Redmond, Oregon for the purpose of providing members with information about the current financial status of their Club, to learn of FMCA developments, the status of the membership, and to elect officers to fill the positions of President, Secretary, VP Membership, and National Director whose two-year terms expired this August. Members of the Nominating Committee were also elected to a one-year term.
Prior to the meeting Member John Kamp presented President Danny Quarisa with a special gavel and strike plate. The gavel and strike plate were made by John with wood from trees near the Caterpillar Plant in Peoria, IL.

HOW YOUR CAT RV CLUB IS MANAGED
by Dianne Wolfe
The CAT RV Club was founded by Don Tallman as an FMCA Chapter in March 2004. While there were many social chapters out there, Don saw the need for a Club that centered around interest in ownership and maintenance of Caterpillar engines in motorhomes. To this day the technical/social combination remains the impetus behind the CAT RV Club. It is this combination that differentiates our Club from many others.
As an FMCA Chapter, the CAT RV Club has by-laws and standing rules fashioned after those of FMCA. Complete text of both by-laws and standing rules can be found on the Club website - www.catrvclub.org.
The Executive Board, comprised of all elected Club officers and Nominating Committee members, manages the day-to-day operation of the Club. To learn more about how your Club is managed click on READ MORE below.

GUEST TECH-TIDBITS - SILVERLEAF'S NEWPORT SEMINAR
By Martin Perlot, President, Silverleaf Electronics When Martin Perlot began giving seminars it was more sales pitch than seminar. He quickly learned that coach owners had a thirst for knowledge about their coaches and how to drive them. It became clear that then existing engine and transmission seminars by manufacturers were mainly about maintenance. What owners wanted was information about how to get the best performance and fuel economy and Martin now tells that story in the context of his Company's VMS products. But you don't have to own a VMS system in order to benefit from listening to his presentation.
His personal expertise comes partially from years in the management of Safari Motor Coaches, rubbing shoulders with experts from Caterpillar, Allison, Cummins, and other leading companies, and from putting a lot of miles behind the wheel of coaches. In addition to his expertise in electronics and head of SilverLeaf, Martin serves as lead designer and writes much of the software. In the process, he's learned a lot about the internals of the engines and other chassis components, all of which contributes to the rich contents of his seminars. Click on READ MORE below to see a complete copy of his seminar handout.

Grab your GPS unit, cache coordinates and off you go to a new adventure - GEOCACHING!
Never heard of Geocaching??? In May 2000, the US Government allowed the general populous greater accuracy access to GPS (Global Positions System) Satellites. A real adventurer started this concept by hiding a container in the backcountry of Oregon, posted the coordinates on the Internet and told the world where to “go find it.” Geocachers love the website - www.geocaching.com for One Stop Information Shopping.
