JACKSONVILLE RALLY

by Brent & Julie Lauderdale, Rally Masters, and Derrel & Kathé Letulle, Co-Rally Masters

If a survey were to be taken of all rally attendees, the overwhelming statement would be one word - FOOD!!!!! Our complements for the wonderful selections of attendee’s dishes at hors d’oeuvres night, as well as our caterer, Cross Creek Steakhouse and Ribs. Breakfasts were more than expected for a “light” fare and the dinners were “to die for!”

Every rally has its firsts and the Jacksonville Rally was no different. The seminars following registration were well received - a wealth of information flowed. The gamut spread through a history of the area, windshield facts and advice, gun laws and warnings, and useful organizational tips.

Ken Carpenter, Sr. VP.  Reported the numbers of members for our Club continues to slip along with FMCA membership. We struggled this past year to maintain our numbers. We need everyone’s help and feedback on how we can improve and how people feel about and what they get out of the Club. We know the technical information per our website is important and we have over 2,000 hits per month.

Brent Lauderdale, VP Rally Coordinator thanked everyone for coming to Jacksonville. We had a great time. We have a great rally coming up this summer at Amana Colonies in Iowa. Suzie Adcock, one of the rally masters, welcomed all the members and told about the early forming of the CAT Club.  Joyce & John Kamp will be the assistant rally masters. The theme will be “Oktoberfest in July” so everyone will celebrate a little bit German. The dates are July 24th - 29th. The extra day will give you time to explore the area. The John Deer museum is not far away. The food will be great and we will have our games. There will be 7 catered meals by the local caterers. The local CAT dealer will be there; and we are working with other vendors, HWH will be doing a seminar and possibly a tour. We will be having morning exercise sessions, ladies seminars and craft making. We will also do the Silent Auction again and will have door prizes. The cost for 1 coach with 2 people is $325.00; 1 single $275.00.  You can come early and stay late. Camping cost for extra night will be $25.68 per night. Suzie will have more information after she meets with the people at the RV Park.
Brent also stated we would like to get some rally masters to volunteer for future rallies.
Dick Jones VP Inventory announced we have items for sale in the back.

Al Vormittag, National Director reported on the National Directors meeting. On January 3rd, Brad Koshland began the job of Executive Director.  This was his first National Convention as Director, although he has attended other conventions as a participant. At Madison FMCA, we will elect a National President, National Sr. VP, National Treasurer and National Secretary. The Nominating Committee has met with potential candidates and interviewed them. The slate of candidates will be presented to the Governing Board when it convenes this summer in Madison. There will be a candidate’s forum prior to the Governing Board Meeting in Madison. All are encouraged to attend and learn about the people who would like to lead FMCA. FMCA Candidates are Judy Czarsty for President; Ross Boyer & Allen Rein for Sr. Vice President; Wilma Jean Alexander & Vicky Ferrari for Secretary; Dan Couch & Wil Young for Treasurer. The candidates will have their info in the FMCA magazine.
The FMCA adjusted loss of last year was $870,000. The Governing Board will be voting on a new budget at Madison. Make sure you carry your FMCA Assist Cards (replacing Medex). Details can be found at the information booth. Al thanked Dick Harris for putting the CAT bean-bag team together.

Old Business: There was none.

New Business: A committee was appointed to discuss the subject of rallies in addition to the rally held two weeks before FMCA, as we are currently doing. These suggestions will allow the CAT Club to continue having two rallies a year if FMCA makes a decision to continue with only one rally per year. The committee unanimously agrees it is imperative the CAT Club continues with two rallies per year regardless of FMCA’s decision. It was also discussed to hold this rally in conjunction with another rally to draw more participation for both rallies.

A committee was appointed to discuss the possibility of having a “vendor day” the first day of the rally at registration. This committee is still coming up with information regarding fees, etc.
We need to support CAT RV Centers and be sure you let the CAT dealer know you are part of the CAT RV Engine Owners Club.

It was also brought up at the President’s Forum that we should all support the FMCA Campgrounds as we travel across this great land.

There being no further business, it was moved and seconded the meeting be adjourned.
Meeting Adjourned at 5:40 pm

MEMBERSHIP REPORT

By Ken Carpenter, SVP, VP Membership and Webmaster

Ken Carpenter, VP Membership & WebmasterWe'd love to put lipstick on the numbers but as is shown in the Membership by Year table, we continue to see a gradual decline in the number of active members.  The CAT RV Club is not alone in experiencing this drop which is impacting most all FMCA Chapters.  The RV industry continues to show signs of recovery and, importantly as it relates to the CAT RV Club, the majority of our new members are new owners of existing Caterpillar-powered coaches.

Membership Totals by Year

MEMBERSHIP CARD - The CAT RV Club membership card has always had a line for you to write in your Vehicle Identification Number making it convenient for you to reference this number when registering for service.  Now that the Club is preparing and/or the Membership Card, it will be easy for us to print the VIN number if you want us to do so.  All we need is your VIN number. This is also a good time to verify that we have your Engine Number properly recorded. Please send your VIN number and/or Engine Serial Number by clicking on the following link - VIN/Engine Numbers. When you submit the information electronically it makes it easy for us to "cut" and "paste" the data into your record.  We will send you a new card with the updated information.

A review of our eNews mailing list shows that we distribute a total of 1,042 newsletters each month.  Here is a breakdown showing the number that are sent to active members, former members who have not yet updated their membership, those that are sent to Caterpillar dealer employees, and those that are distributed to FMCA Officers.  (Numbers below do not include the 500 plus printed newsletters for distribution to members with out email authorizations on file and for Chapter promotion and recruiting).
  • Active Members - 696
  • Inactive Members (expired memberships) - 221
  • Caterpillar & Caterpillar Dealer Employees - 81
  • FMCA VIPS - 18
See the Contact Information section at the end of this eNewsletter to verify the status of your membership and to update your contact information, if needed.

JACKSONVILLE SEMINAR PRESENTATIONS AND CRAFT SESSIONS

By Kathé Letulle

A wonderful time was had by all... many laughs, surprises, camarderie.  Attendees that did not know each other made lasting friendships as well as being welcomed to the group of regular rally attendees.  Amazing how such a small task can yield such grand results. Each attendee was able to make one item in class each day and received a kit to make an additional item at home.

Tuesday, the craft class taught was the art of wire beading on a serving utensil handle.  Utilizing jewelery round pliers, each attendee learned to make a wire curl, stretch over the end of the utensil, wrap the artistic wire stabilizing the curl and beginning the bead wrap process down the handle of the utensil. Alternating wrap and bead techniques to within a three inch space at the bottom of the utensil was the objective. At that point another curl was formed and placed on the front side of the utensil handle.  And what do you know - the project is complete!!!  All attendees could identify their own personal possession.

Thursday, the craft taught was the individual bottle identifier.  This craft took much strength and the use of large needle pliars with the ends wrapped in tape as to not mar the wire.  Both ends of the large wire were curled leaving a 6" or less center.  Large beads were glued to each curled area. Once the glue dried - the item could be wrapped around a bottle... wine, liqour, beverage, etc.  This would identify the bottle as your own as well as be a decorative accent.  The beads would be decorated with stick on alphabet letters, symbols, etc. further enhancing their uniqueness.

Both of these projects make excellent gifts. Each project can be expanded using each attendee's unique talents.  This group, and that includes both days, was very cohesive and not shy with suggestions - which really assisted in making these classes a success.  THANKS GANG!!!
